Our Publishing House
Located in Munich-Martinsried, Spotlight Verlag leads the European market in the language magazine sector. We are a subsidiary of Verlagsgruppe Georg von Holtzbrinck, leading publisher of business-media.

2006 marked the 25th anniversary of the founding of Spotlight Verlag: that means 25 years of successfully bringing our readers great reports, stories and information from the English-, French-, Spanish-, Italian-and German-speaking world, while giving them the chance to improve their language skills.

In 2003, Spotlight Verlag won the Bavarian Print Media Prize (Bayerischen Printmedienpreis), which is awarded annually by the Bavarian government. The jury explained their choice by saying that: "Spotlight enables its readers to find their way in an increasingly international environment. Using the company's accessible and readable publications, readers can improve their language skills and understand the cultural diversity that is our future."

Our Magazines
The first issue of the English magazine Spotlight appeared in September 1981, followed by the French magazine Écoute in 1984. In 1991 ECOS was launched in Spanish and three years later the Italian magazine ADESSO was published for the first time. In January 1999 the first issue of the youth magazine Spot on appeared on the newsstands. In March 2001 Business Spotlight made its début. The bimonthly publication was awarded "trade publication of the year 2007". In November 2005 Deutsch perfekt, the language magazine for learners of German, was launched.

Every magazine offers its readers first-hand information about current political and cultural events in that particular language area. With the help of comprehensive language and vocabulary information as well as grammar tips and practice cards, our readers can improve their language skills in an entertaining and enjoyable way.

Our Reporters
The correspondents and editors writing for our publications are journalists of repute in their home countries. Their on-the-spot reports, written specially for our magazines, are carefully researched and contain useful background information, enabling us to give readers an interesting and multi-faceted insight into the language and culture of the respective magazines.

The youth magazine Spot on has reporters from around the world covering topics such as music, film, sport and travel in accessible and up-to-date English.

Additional Material
All the magazines except Spot on provide additional audio material: Spotlight, Écoute, ADESSO and ECOS produce material on a monthly basis, Business Spotlight and Deutsch perfekt every two months. Audio CDs are a great way to improve listening comprehension. They are also available as download.

The language trainer Plus offers 24 pages of practical exercises, along with information and games for language learners who wish to improve their skills in grammar, vocabulary, idioms and day-to-day language.

Spotlight also offers additional material online. www.spotlight-verlag.de gives you access not only to articles from the current magazines but also to language tests, vocabulary, listening exercises and podcasts. We offer an interactive network on the subject of languages with links and contact information.

Every month our language specialists create a Teachers' Newsletter for each magazine, with information on how to make the best possible use of the magazines in a classroom environment.
